UK Bird Photography

I’ve never really considered myself a birder. In fact, I’m often heard saying that if it isn’t an owl, I’m not interested. The reality is slightly different — if I come across an interesting bird or a good photographic opportunity, I’m unlikely to pass it up.

Many of these images have come from chance encounters or from spending time in places where wildlife is abundant. I’ll often use the car as a mobile hide, or work concealed beneath a bag hide where getting closer without disturbing the subject is important. As with all of my wildlife photography, the aim is to observe natural behaviour rather than change it for the sake of an image.

This gallery brings together some of those encounters with birds around the UK — the ones that managed to distract me from owls for long enough to point the camera at them.
