ICELAND · LAND OF FIRE & ICEIceland is another place that has become very special to me. Having visited multiple times, in both summer and winter, I’ve been fortunate to experience very different sides of this remarkable country and its constantly changing landscapes.
There is an extraordinary sense of scale and space to Iceland. Vast, often barren landscapes stretch between rugged mountains, immense glaciers, black sand beaches and some of the most spectacular waterfalls I’ve photographed. In winter, snow and ice transform the scenery again, while clear nights can bring the unforgettable experience of watching the Northern Lights dance across the Icelandic sky.
Over multiple visits I’ve travelled around much of Iceland’s coastline, exploring almost the entire perimeter of the island apart from the north-east. The distances are huge and getting from one location to another can mean many hours on the road, but the journey is very much part of the experience. The landscape is constantly changing around you, often revealing unexpected views and places along the way. Even after several trips, there are still areas I want to explore and familiar locations I would happily return to and photograph again.
Beyond the photography, I’ve always enjoyed simply being in Iceland — its wild and rugged scenery, welcoming atmosphere and, perhaps unexpectedly, some superb food. It is a country I never seem to tire of and one I’m sure I will continue returning to.
