Sponsor a Barn Owl Box on Salisbury Plain

Many of the boxes I make are sponsored boxes by individuals to be put up on Salisbury Plain.  The Lewis Raptor and Owl Group part of the Salisbury Plain Training Area (SPTA) Raptor and Owl Group are always happy to receive sponsorship for Barn Owl boxes to go up on Salisbury Plain.  With an area covering over 94,000 acres of Military Training ground we collectively monitor and maintain over 600 boxes and their inhabitants on the Plain.

Every year we visit as many of the boxes as we can to check their condition, clear out any debris left from unwanted inhabitants like Jackdaw’s, Squirrels or Stock Doves.  We will also fix or replace any damaged boxes and monitor the number of occupants.

If the Owls have any successful broods of chicks we will sex, weigh and ring them and all data is shared back with the British Ornithological Society (BTO).  All this work is done under licence from the BTO to ensure that the welfare of the birds is always the number one priority.
