CANADA & USAThe landscapes of Canada and the USA offer some of the most diverse and dramatic scenery I have ever had the opportunity to photograph. From the vast wilderness of the north to the iconic desert landscapes of the southwest, the scale and variety of these environments is truly extraordinary.
My journey through Alaska and the Yukon was an unforgettable adventure. Travelling vast distances through remote wilderness during the autumn colours, the landscape constantly changed from forests and mountains to open valleys and rugged terrain. There was a real sense of isolation and adventure, with long hours on the road rewarded by some incredible scenery and unforgettable moments — including some of the most spectacular Northern Lights displays I have ever witnessed.
The Yukon also holds a particular fascination for me beyond the landscape itself. I have always been intrigued by gold mining and the way it continues to shape the region. Staying in Dawson City, the influence of mining is everywhere — from the communities built around it to the way the landscape has been transformed by generations of activity. Even small details, such as the Yukon licence plates featuring a gold prospector panning for gold, reflect how closely connected the region remains to this industry.
One of my favourite images from this journey captures a particularly rare moment, with the Northern Lights appearing while the sun was still setting, creating an incredible combination of colour and light that perfectly represents the magic of the far north.
In contrast, my road trip through the American Southwest revealed a completely different side of the continent. Travelling through Utah and Arizona, the cooler northern wilderness was replaced by immense deserts, red rock formations, towering canyons and landscapes shaped over millions of years. Places such as Zion, Bryce Canyon, Monument Valley and the Grand Canyon offered a completely different but equally captivating photographic experience.
Both journeys shared a common theme: the experience of travelling long distances through extraordinary landscapes, where the journey itself became as memorable as the destinations.
